A nice sort of day but wind on the cool side. Cleaned jets and did the Ts. Raked leaves from under the rhodies and burnt them. Stayed to dinner. Leg eaiser.

Not a bad day, fairly mild. Raked leaves from in front of T’s office and burnt them. 3 big fires. Cleared out the silage lab and did all the Ts. Stayed dinner. Leg still bad.

Fog at first but cleared later and some sunshine. Car washing. G,B2,A,K making 224 to date. Did Ts. Stayed dinner again. Knee very bad today. Told T I am going to get it locked*.

*I think this was arthrodesis , a process used before reliable joint replacements were available. The bones in joints, like Granddad’s knee, were surgically fused to create one continuous, stable bone. This permanently “locked” the joint in a fixed position (usually a slightly bent angle for walking) to eliminate pain and provide stability. Pretty brutal.  This is how I remember Granddad, with one leg permanently straight.

The fog still round. Got up 10am. Cold. Dot and Jane came for tea. Went home at 7pm. Stayed in with Nell and watched tellie. Not very good programme.

Day off today. Got up at 10.30am. A cold morning with fog about. Leg too bad to do any gardening. Did some reading and watched the telly. Went to pub on bike.

Another dull cloudy day but not too cold. Car washing again. H.T.B1. making 220 to date. Did all the Ts. Heard that S is leaving. Mark and Roger are leaving tonight.
