Set out next morning for Hartlepool. Got there about 11 a.m. Met Nell’s Uncle and Aunt. Saw North Sea for the first time. Left about 1 p.m. for Durham. Went through Cath. Stayed Anchor Inn. 11/- per B and B.

Set off on hols at about 8.45. Weather not too bad. Went over new Runcorn Bridge making for Yorkshire. Found some digs in Stockton on Tees. 12/6- bed and breakfast. Nice old lady.

A nice sort of a day. Sunshine, one or two light showers. Car washing again. H.A. making 129 to date. Starting hols tonight. Loaded rubbish on the trailer.

Day of the council trip today. Not a bad day for it. A fair amount of sunshine and some showers. It was a lovely run through the Welsh countryside. Home 1 a.m.

Another miserable day of showers and little sunshine. Cleaned the copper in boiler room and painted both the burners. Did all the toilets again. Other knee bad today.

A better day today with some sunshine. Digging under the rhodies. Did all the toilets. Doing house windows top tonight if it doesn’t rain. Screws bad today.

Another day of showers. Some sunshine late in the afternoon. Car washing again. S.B.K. making 127 to date. Did all the toilets again. On Lab windows tonight if it keeps fine.

Got up at 9.30 a.m. Still more showers. Did the mowing and cut the dead roses. Ron came for us in the afternoon. Jane lovely. Also, little Ian*.

Day off today. A rotten day. Rain all day. Not fit to go to P. Did some reading and watched the tel. Mrs Bailey gave me some plants. Put them in borders.

Another miserable day again with more rain. Only Howarth’s car to day making 124 to date. Did all the toilets. Did metal with shine. Told Best about boiler. Ron came for N at noon.
